About The Spencer Museum of Art
The Spencer Museum of Art got its start as the University of Kansas Museum of Art in 1917 when Sallie Casey Thayer, a Kansas City art collector, offered the University of Kansas nearly 7,500 objects to form a museum. Since then the museum has continued to build and expand its collection to hold over 47,000 objects from around the world.
Within the collection are 38 works of art by Thomas Hart Benton.
