The Sheldon Art Museum

About the Sheldon Art Museum

Lincoln, Nebraska is home to the Sheldon Museum of Art, a part of the University of Nebraska. The museum's large collection includes works by American impressionists, early modernists, geometric abstraction, abstract expressionism, pop, minimalism, and contemporary artists.

The Sheldon Museum of Art is home to 9 works of art by Thomas Hart Benton, including the Lonesome Road, a painting which has the road trip ingrained in the American psyche, evoking wonderful memories of childhood adventures and long, winding roadways.

Thomas Hart Benton’s artwork was recently featured in an exhibition, The Road Less Traveled. The artworks confound such an ideal with the reality of infrastructure and the environment. The exhibition was supported by the Nebraska Arts Council, the Nebraska Cultural Endowment, and the Sheldon Art Association.
