About The Lauren Rogers Museum of Art
The Lauren Rogers Museum of Art opened in 1923 to commemorate Lauren Eastman Rogers, son, and grandson to prominent founding fathers of Laurel, Mississippi. When the Museum opened, it was the first art museum in Mississippi. In fact, it is Mississippi’s first art museum.
Despite it being a relatively small museum, its permanent collection contains a variety of styles of artwork from around the world. The museum is well known for its five specialized collections:
American art
European paintings
Native American art
Japanese woodblock prints
British Georgian silver
The American art collection houses Sunday Morning by Thomas Hart Benton.
