Sioux City Art Center
About the Sioux City Art Center
Formerly known as The Sioux City Society of Fine Arts, the museum was founded in 1914 with the goal of "promoting and cultivating the fine arts, and foster art in all its branches." In 1938, the museum petitioned the federal government for the establishment of a WPA Art Center in Sioux City, along with the Sioux City Junior League and other community supporters.
The same year, Thomas Hart Benton created Susanna and the Elders, and Persephone. Within the museums’ collection, his two artworks, 1973, County Politics and 1950, Photographing the Bull can be found.
