About the ​​Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art

Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, located in Bentonville, Arkansas, was founded by Alice Walton and officially opened on November 11th, 2011.The museum was opened to celebrate American art and provide an opportunity for visitors to experience that art in a nature-centerered facility and surrounding.

Crystal Bridges houses a permanent collection of American art masterworks from the colonial era to modern day, with touring collections from national art institutions. Acclaimed works include such masterpieces as Charles Wilson Peale’s and Gilbert Stuart’s portraits of George Washington; Asher Brown Durand’s Kindred Spirits; and Norman Rockwell’s Rosie the Riveter. Other major works by artists such as John Singer Sargent, Thomas Eakins, William Merritt Chase, and Andy Warhol, are also featured in the art collection at the museum.

Included in the collection at Crystal Bridges are 15 works of art by Thomas Hart Benton, including sketches, lithographs and paintings. Tobacco Sorters (1942/1944), Ploughing it Under (1934/1964) and The Steel Mill (1930) are each exemplary works by Benton within the collection.
