About the Cleveland Museum of Art
The Cleveland Museum of Art first opened their doors on June 6, 1916. The original neoclassic building remains the focal point of Cleveland, Ohio’s Fine Arts Garden. Each museum director has brought their passion and experience to the museum and art community, including incredible additions and expansions, acquisitions and programming.
Now encompassing 592,500 square feet, the Cleveland Museum of Art contains over 34,000 artifacts from almost every major civilization and time. It houses artifacts from ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, and Rome, as well as early and modern America, Europe, East Asia, the Middle East, India, and Africa, and pre-Columbian Mexico and Central America. Included in the collection is 24 works of art by Thomas Hart Benton.
